[det]WORK with Jessica York

Owner & Founder of Breathe: Bodywork and Beautification & Coterie Detroit

We spotlight Detroit Professionals weekly through [det]WORK. If you’d like to be featured, introduce yourself here.

What is your elevator pitch?

Yes, so I own two businesses! Breathe: Bodywork and Beautification is a vegan day spa with locations in Ferndale, and in St Clair Shores at Greater Chiropractic.

Coterie Detroit is a networking group where mental health meets entrepreneurship, and we provide affordable business coaching and services to the community.

Both businesses are heavily involved in utilizing local Metro Detroit resources and collaborations. For example, the spa only carries local, women owned lines and products for example and we donate monthly to Detroit Animal Welfare Group, as well as having a monthly charity we sponsor, donate to, or volunteer at.

Additionally, I'm the co-founder of The Annual Ferndale Wellness Fair and have a podcast, When Survival Looks Like Success. Oh, and I'm a professional model too and do runway coaching in Metro Detroit! So many things! (Yes, I have a book on Amazon too....)

What’s your ask?

My goal is to have all my businesses be fully occupied and booked. Max attendance for Coterie Detroit, great outcomes for the Wellness Fair, fully booked at Breathe, etc.

Tell us something about yourself that we can’t find on your LinkedIn profile.

Something I think most people are surprised about is that I have not traveled much. I've done a few high school trips, been to Florida and Colorado, but I haven't even done a UP trip. Money has always been tight for me and so travel is rarely in the budget. My goal is to see everything in Michigan!

What networking/professional event(s) are you looking forward to?

I LOVE Ber-Henda's Un-Networking Events, they are always so good. I just started going to Detroit Fashion Community events too and I've been enjoying those as well because I'm obsessed with individual style.

What’s your favorite coffee spot in Metro Detroit?

Gotta be Drifter Coffee in Ferndale!

What’s your favorite happy hour spot in Metro Detroit?

I'm 2.5 years sober so I don't roll that way anymore!

What podcast, book, social account, or subscription do you think everyone needs to know about?

Podcast - Mayim Bialik's Breakdown is so good, informative, funny, psychological, you name it

Book - ”Humankind” by Rutger Bregman should be in every school

Social Account - Bec Norton Woodland_Ghost is honestly one of my favorites on any platforms, it's like an indie artist page with adorable characters from a real artist that just makes me feel warm and snuggly

Subscription - The EmpowHER MembHERship is so good! It's a wonderful virtual community that takes the dread out of social media, a more funneled approach with people who really care. Social media should have intent!
